Divorce and Parenting
Pawns in the game
Vinita Panjabi recalls, "When Sanjay and I decided to get a divorce, I think we fought the most about who would keep the children. I remember being so angry and hurt that I wanted to hit back in any way possible. I just wanted to leave and take my children with me so that I could forget that I had ever been married to him."
Divorce is usually a bitter and acrimonious process. Desperate to get out of a bad marriage and to hurt each other as much as ...

My husband and I decided to give our children a real treat this
Easter...A real live Easter Bunny!
We made a trip to our local Agway store and, as we suspected,
they had several baby bunnies for sale, along with fresh-hatched
chicks and ducks. Thank heaven that Darlene, the lady working
during our visit, knew a good bit about bunnies. She was able to
quickly gather the essentials we needed to take our new family
member home, before our 2 year-old harmed any of the little
chicks that she ...

There has always been a lot of debate as to whether an online
college education is as good as a traditional college education.
The answer to this is quite simple; there are good institutions
that offer an online college education and there are bad
establishments that offer an online college education. So, you
need to do your research in the same way when you are looking
for the best place to pursue your online college education with
as you would an offline course.
Of course you are not going ...

How can we as parents help our children make good choices? How do we prepare our children to think for themselves so that they can ultimately do this? Well, beginning at about age 7, children begin to experience the "age of reason," when they begin to be able to truly tell the difference between right and wrong. Ultimately, with parenting, this culminates at about the age of 18, where bona fide prudence comes into play.
David Isaacs, Ph.D., who is a Spanish educator, offers this suggestion: ...

Over 200 pairs of eyes are glued to me as a spirited child screams, "ORDER ME MY MEAL NOW!"
This child has refused to order his own hamburger (as he has done many times before) and when I calmly tell him he can either order it himself, or go home without his burger, he goes completely berserk. Yes, I have entered into a "food fare nightmare"--with my formidable opponent, an eight year old child.
I feel my cheeks flush as public onlookers wait in complete stunned silence to see who will ...

One of the most frustrating events for individuals facing
rehabilitation is thinking that their insurance is going to pay
for everything and finding out that their insurance will not pay
for the complete services required for a successful
rehabilitation.
Nursing home skilled units want to be assured that the necessary
steps will be taken to assure that they will be paid. Nursing
homes are most familiar with Original Medicare, Medicare
Advantage Plans, Medicare Managed Care Plans, Medicare ...

The Internet is a wonderful resource for schools and colleges,
but it brings new problems to worry about. Stories about
viruses, hackers and porn websites have become increasingly
frequent in newspapers and on TV. For those in the education
world, it can be difficult to separate the hype from the true
risks, and to make decisions about how to tackle this problem.
The reality is somewhere between the extremes of the
doom-mongers and those who don't see a problem: yes, Internet
security threats ...

We are all born as sexual beings. It is as much a part of our
anatomy, our emotional and mental make-up as breathing. Whether
we are acting upon our sexual drive at any given moment is
beside the point. I think it's important to realize that
children have sexual feelings, just not as developed as adult
feelings. Whether these instincts remain healthy is quite
another story. As parents, I believe we need to instill a
healthy outlook in our kids about sex and their imminent
sexuality.
The first ...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Results of the Spanking Poll on Rexanne.com:
Voters - 233 Percentage of readers who do not spank their
children: 37% Percentage of readers who spank their children:
62% ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I am completely opposed to spanking. I know that almost twice as
many of you spank your children as don't. At the risk of
alienating 62 percent of my subscribers, I cannot, in good
conscience, keep my opinions to myself. ;-)
I feel we have evolved enough as a society to understand that
violence ...
The number of students following the distance education path is
increasing every year. It's easy to understand why: No commute,
no mysterious four-hour "labs", flexible scheduling, self-paced
learning, and specialized training courses are just a few perks
of the distance education model.
But for the distance learning newcomer, it's not always easy to
figure out how the getting-started process works. And for many,
one pressing question in particular looms large:
How do you finance a distance ...
